Provisions and work . . .

Many of you know that I am working on raising the necessary resources to study abroad in Germany in the Spring of 2016, and I would like to share one of the ways that God has been providing for me.

This past spring, I taught self defense for a small class in Linden, Tennessee.  Out of that, I was contacted by the University of Tennessee, and asked to teach self defense classes this summer.  I have accepted the teaching position. Not only has God provided an opportunity to reach out and connect with those around me, He has also given me a job that I love! I am so grateful, and quite excited to see how He is providing, and how He will provide for me.

     We serve an awesome God.

My metier

Last year, I enrolled in my second theology class as required by my major. I expected drudgery, not excitement.  Prior to the class, I natively believed that theology and the study of it was irrelevant to my life, and even to life itself.

However, to my delight, I discovered that, not only is theology relevant to life, but it is relevant to my life! From learning to articulate what I believe and why I believe it, to entering into discussion through the written word with the great theologians who have gone before me, I am enraptured. I have found my niche, glory to God!

My minor is now Historical Theology, with my major being TESOL, also known as ESL.

By faith: A Major Change

This semester, I will be changing my major at Moody Bible Institute - Spokane from Missionary Aviation Technology to TESOL, also known as ESL: Teaching English as a Second Language.  God has directed this change clearly, and I am walking in expectant, joyous faith as I watch Him work in my life.

For those of you whom are closest to me, you know that language has always been one of my passions.  I am excited to pursue language to the furthest end, and hopefully to use language to spread the love of Jesus to the world, whether by going or by writing.

As far as my love for flight and my desire to become a pilot, that dream in my heart still glows brightly, but God has made it clear that now is not the time to pursue that end.  And so I take a step in faith, with a deep breath, knowing that I can trust my Heavenly Father with the desires of my heart, for He has never failed me.

"By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went."

New opportunities...

During this past Spring semester at Moody Bible Institute - Spokane, I had the opportunity to begin using my training as a black belt in Tae Kwon Do (Tae Kwon Do is Korean karate) to teach women's self defense classes.  I taught two beginner-level classes this past semester, both beginner-level, weekly. It was a great joy to be able to pass on the things that I have been taught by my instructors, Master Guy B. Ogburn, and Grandmaster Seoung Eui Shin.  It has been my desire and goal to teach young women to defend themselves and those around them, and to see them gain the confidence that comes with learning martial arts.

In this next school year, I have the privilege to continue teaching self defense at Moody; I will be teaching beginning and advanced classes weekly.

As you can well imagine, this opportunity has been a huge blessing for me; not only am I able to put the funds earned from the class toward my schooling, I also have a job that I absolutely LOVE, and able to see others grow and flourish by teaching what I have been taught. It is a great honor to represent my Master and Grandmaster by continuing to teach and pass on the art that I love.

For you, I have attached the link to my Grandmaster's website, as well as a link to a short video clip about my self defense class at Moody Bible Institute - Spokane.  Please check them out below.

May God bless you,

Amy

New beginnings

This spring has been the start of so many new things! I have a part-time job as a self-defense instructor for Moody Bible Institute which will happily continue throughout my time in Spokane, even after I have graduated. Also, I was recommended by one of my professors for a second part-time job at Moody, and I am hoping to get that position as well.

With only four weeks left of the spring semester of school, life is getting crazy as I balance work, school, and my social life.  Finals are nipping at my heels, and it is time to rise with the occasion.  My classes this semester have consisted of New Testament Survey, Geometry, Physics, and Trigonometry, Speech Communications, and Studying and Teaching the Bible. I absolutely love all of my classes, and my Geometry, Physics, and Trig class has been my favorite so far.

Over spring break, I had the opportunity to spend some time at the Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) hangar and the Advanced Training (AT) hangar, where I shadowed three students for a day.  I went up in a Cessna 172 Skyhawk between Spokane, WA and Coeur d'Alene, ID; afterwards, I watched the AMT students attach a tail onto a Cessna, and looked over the shoulder of an AMT student as he worked on welding. I find both the hangars and the training fascinating, and am excited to move forward in my training, one step at a time.

I ask that you would pray for me as I continue my studies and training to be a missionary pilot through Moody Bible Institute - it is a challenging and intense journey.  Please pray for endurance, focus, excellence in my studies, and provision for the funds necessary to complete my five-year training and get my degree in Missionary Aviation Technology.

For those who would like to help support me financially, I have added a donate button to the side of this page, for which you can donate through PayPal.  All support goes into my student account and will be used solely for the purpose of my training through Moody Bible Institute.

    May God bless you,

The adventure begins...

"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." ~Isaiah 40:31

This verse has been strongly impressed upon me this semester as I continue my biblical studies and begin my classes for missionary aviation at Moody Bible Institute Spokane; I realized long ago that I can do nothing in my own strength, not to mention going through the toughest flight school for missionary aviation in the world! So it is by God's calling, provision, and grace that I am here.

When I began this semester, I came to Moody Bible Institute Spokane on a wing and a prayer, literally.  As I boarded Southwest Airlines and flew north.  I had, on that day just a week before classes began, only a third of the funds needed for this spring semester: I prayed hard, knowing beyond a shadow of doubt that God wanted me at Moody.  Purposed to stay out of debt, I began looking for a job, only to have one divinely given to me - a teaching position at Moody for self-defense.  The stipend I would receive for teaching the classes would cover the amount needed for my tuition for this spring semester.  I am still in awe of God for providing this job for me. The provision came just as the need arose - my God always comes through!

My heart is to see the love of God shared with every person, everywhere; I want to use my passion for flight to honor God and to serve others. There is no greater joy than to love and to be loved: whether this means overseas or here in America, I desire to be a giver of love, a giver of joy, and a mouthpiece for God.

My passion for flight increases everyday, along with my anticipation of this fall, when I am to start Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) school year-round.  I am excited beyond words to watch and wait upon God as He makes my way straight before my face.  I am confident in the hope that where God calls, God supplies. And He is never late.

Now, with mid-terms approaching this week, I ask that you would pray for me, especially for focus as I strive for excellence in my classes this semester.

Though the cost of becoming a missionary pilot is heavy, I have faith that God will provide; I am answering His call and going forward in faith. If you would like to partner with me in reaching my dreams, please don't hesitate to contact me; more details coming soon.
